Plaid Flannel

I wanted a nice warm flannel shirt for winter but had trouble finding one. Everything was too wide and not soft enough. Then I read about this shirt on GQ. This shirt is has a nice trim fit and is very soft. We are still having spring like weather here in NYC so this shirt is all I needed to stay comfortable. Happy new year everyone! Make Love Not War

I'm very much a pacifist but enjoy military influenced styles. This jacket was a real bargain at Target. It's exactly what I had been looking for. It comes with a hood but I think it looks better without it. I like that it has buttons as well as a zipper. It's a nice jacket to wear while exploring the city. Plenty of pockets and looks good with a rucksack.

Scrooge outfit

I like Christmas but here in the US it's far too commercial for my taste. I've been lucky enough to experience it in other countries and all I can say is that we Americans have a lot to learn. I'm happy that holiday shopping is over as well as the mind numbing Christmas music in the stores! Some people call me Scrooge for that last comment because I don't hide my distaste. It's not the music itself but the fact that the stores select tunes that give shoppers a melancholy feeling that is proven to make them spend more money. The hypocrisy of it all just rubs me the wrong way.  Fortunately we will be rocking to something else at my house during Christmas dinner!

On Target

I was at Target the other day and remembered reading an article on GQ about some items in the mens section. I had never shopped for clothes at Target other than for children, but I remembered the article and decided to check it out. I found a few things that I liked. The styles were surprisingly cool and trendy. I got the jacket pictured below as well as a military style parka and 2 hats. The jacket in the pictures is from Converse and they call it the Moto Bomber. The label says black but it's actually a gunmetal color with dark blue around the edges. It's reinforced on the shoulders and elbows like a motorcycle jacket and fits nice and snug. I liked the pockets which look cool and are very convenient. There is a zippered pocket which is perfect for my phone. The boots are Ashton Grey from DSW. Very comfortable and great quality leather.

Today it was 38°F (+3°C). Finally normal temperatures for this time of year. When it's cold there is something very satisfying about eating chocolate outdoors. Kit Kat is my favorite and I had some left over from Halloween. I have no idea what this has to do with my look but I just wanted to mention it since I am eating in the pictures lol. I wore this blazer often during the fall. I found a nice tweed cap that goes well with it. Along with the scarf, and fingerless gloves it was all I needed to stay warm and still text on my i-phone!

Argyle Sweater

I'm noticing that the nice fall weather is about to end. Maybe one last chance to go out with just a sweater, scarf, and a hat. Some nice jeans and boots always go well with an argyle sweater. I love simple, neat, casual looks like this. You feel appropriately dressed for almost anything. Winter is my least favorite season but I'll try to make the best of it and wear as little as possible!

Casual Friday

My casual Friday look for a nice sunny day. I've been searching for a slim fitting hoody that could be used as an under layer for winter. I checked American Apparel online and was happy to see that they had a huge selection in many colors. This is Dov's hoody in faded black. Everything they make is top quality and a pleasure to wear. They also don't employ any sweat shop labor so I don't mind if their products cost a little more. It's just a simple casual item but very practical for this time of year. In England they won't let you into some bars if you are wearing a hoody. Maybe they have fashion police! For a more stylish look you can wear it under a tweed blazer. The watch is a Nixon Time Teller, they come in all sorts of colors. I love the brown Asics rotation 77 sneakers. I bar laced them which I think looks cool with this particular shoe.

Sweater Weather

Another beautiful spring like autumn day. I got this sweater as a gift from my Mom. She finally knows better than to buy me cotton sweaters. They just don't last very long or feel nice. Not sure I love the color of this one but it's Merino wool and very soft. H&M makes great fitting pants. At least they fit me great. I feel like I have my own tailor there which is nice. It's a good incentive not to gain any weight. I'm never sure about combining grey with brown but these shades seem to look OK. The belt matches the shoes perfectly which I like.

Black & Grey

I like black and grey colors for fall. I also like combining different shades of grey. In this case the pants and the blazer. This is a tweed blazer from Tommy Hilfiger. I'm wearing it here with a hooded Henley shirt from Buffalo and Levi's 511 skinny jeans. I like wearing a blazer as part of a casual look. It dresses it up a little and makes it more interesting. When wearing jeans with any blazer I think close fitting jeans like these work best. I would usually prefer a dark wash jean with a blazer but I decided to experiment and liked the results.

Autumn feelings

For wearing clothes Autumn is probably the best season. On colder days I prefer staying warm with a few light layers instead of a heavy jacket. A hooded henley shirt is great for layering. The one in the picture is from Buffalo. I like the design and color. With sweaters I prefer either cashmere or merino wools. They are warm yet breathable. The vest in the pictures is 100% cashmere. I won't get into all the advantages of cashmere but I can guarantee it's well worth it. This one is made by Taso Elba which is a brand sold by Macy's. The idea behind the brand is to offer good quality materials at reasonable prices.

Eyes wide shut

I haven't worn corduroy pants in years but when I saw these from H&M I decided to try them on. The fit was nice and they felt very comfortable. Maybe it's just psychological but they seem warmer than jeans. This is a nice color for fall and I think it goes well with other clothes that I have. The sweater from Banana Republic is 100% merino wool. It's very soft and breathable so it never feels hot when indoors. I just wear a short sleeve v-neck underneath. The scarf is also from BR. I like wearing scarves when it gets colder and in the fall you can often get by with just a sweater and scarf. I actually just learned how to tie some different knots a couple of years ago by watching You Tube videos. This is a simple slip knot which is my favorite. It's a nice idea to try to match your belt to your shoes. The watch doesn't matter but this one happens to match the sweater, belt, and shoes perfectly which I thought was cool :)

A lucky day for a wool sweater. It's been so warm that I haven't been able to wear it much. It should get it's fair share of use in the coming months.

Military Jacket

Military style jackets are being made by everyone now. This one from Zara is perfect for the unusually warm weather we are having this fall. I'm wearing it with a T-shirt here but I think it also looks good with a sweater if it gets a little colder. I like how it looks with black jeans as long as they are a different shade.

Black & Blue

This is just something comfortable to wear on another nice fall day.  I think black and blue go well together. The vest and plaid shirt are from H&M. It's becoming my favorite place to shop because they have clothes that actually fit me. I'm a big guy but often shocked by how huge the clothes are in this country. It's often difficult it is to find something that fits well no matter what size you choose. Fortunately there are now stores like H&M and Topman that offer European fit and styling. Levi's also started making new styles that fit better. These are 511 skinny jeans and the color code is 4406.

Good times bad times

It's November but another beautiful day; only a hoodie needed to stay warm. The Michael Kors hoodie has a purple inner lining. Even when zipped the purple shows, which is nice since it's a color I love but don't often get to wear. I Mostly only wear it in socks and ties. The H&M jeans are the Sliq style which is a skinny fit. It's similar to the Drain style but not as skinny in the legs. They are as good as jeans costing 3 times as much. The striped v-neck is from Pac-Sun. I think stripped t-shirts are fun and work well with different outfits. I like when they can be obscured a little with a jacket or sweater.

All Black

I found the wool vest at a thrift store called Buffalo exchange. They have several locations around the country. It's like going fishing I guess. You may not always catch something but it's fun to try. The t-shirt is from Gypsy-05. I liked the details of the elbow patches and front pocket. The jeans are Levi's 511 skinny zipper back. They call the color 3D-Jetty. It's an interesting black color that is not uniform throughout. The zippers in the back are a nice touch and useful. These have become one of my favorite pairs of jeans for fall and winter. I would like to have some new boots to wear with them but still searching. Instead I wore Kenneth Cole driving shoes in keeping with the all black look.

Rainy day dream away

This is a Tommy Hilfiger tweed blazer that I found on sale for $135. It's a good quality 49% wool jacket with no arm patches. Not easy to find something this nice at a reasonable price so I'm glad I managed. The pants are H&M Drain jeans and the shirt is also from H&M. I usually wear these jeans with shoes but it was raining today so I wore boots. The drop on the jeans is nice with shoes on but I also like the way they crumple up with the boots. These jeans are very skinny so that will happen with boots unless you cuff the jeans at the bottom. I decided not to do that today. I like the combination of being neat with a shirt and blazer yet a little disheveled with the jeans. I have no idea if these are all fashion terms but I never claimed to know much about this. What I do know is that a nice pair of vintage or distressed wing tip boots would look great with these jeans and the blazer. Just have to find them, which won't be easy.
