All Black

I found the wool vest at a thrift store called Buffalo exchange. They have several locations around the country. It's like going fishing I guess. You may not always catch something but it's fun to try. The t-shirt is from Gypsy-05. I liked the details of the elbow patches and front pocket. The jeans are Levi's 511 skinny zipper back. They call the color 3D-Jetty. It's an interesting black color that is not uniform throughout. The zippers in the back are a nice touch and useful. These have become one of my favorite pairs of jeans for fall and winter. I would like to have some new boots to wear with them but still searching. Instead I wore Kenneth Cole driving shoes in keeping with the all black look.

Rainy day dream away

This is a Tommy Hilfiger tweed blazer that I found on sale for $135. It's a good quality 49% wool jacket with no arm patches. Not easy to find something this nice at a reasonable price so I'm glad I managed. The pants are H&M Drain jeans and the shirt is also from H&M. I usually wear these jeans with shoes but it was raining today so I wore boots. The drop on the jeans is nice with shoes on but I also like the way they crumple up with the boots. These jeans are very skinny so that will happen with boots unless you cuff the jeans at the bottom. I decided not to do that today. I like the combination of being neat with a shirt and blazer yet a little disheveled with the jeans. I have no idea if these are all fashion terms but I never claimed to know much about this. What I do know is that a nice pair of vintage or distressed wing tip boots would look great with these jeans and the blazer. Just have to find them, which won't be easy.

Crazy Blues

This look is basically just jeans and a shirt but I tired to liven it up with the shoes, the watch, and the shell necklace.  I don't like a lot of accessories but a few little things can make a difference.

Fall Blazer

Over the weekend I searched for a tweed blazer. I went to Topman and H&M in downtown Manhattan. Topman had a very nice dark brown one for $160 that I did not see on their website. Unfortunately the arm length was too short for me no matter which size I tried. The H&M blazer was like the one pictured in a previous post. It was 100% wool but I just liked the color of the Topman blazer better so I kept looking. I finally wound up finding 2 blazers. The brown one below at another H&M store and a grey one by Tommy Hilfiger that I will talk more about in a future post. The H&M blazer was only $69 and it's 20% wool. For the price the quality is good and it was the color I was looking for. It's lighter than others I tried and perfect for fall weather with a sweater underneath. Always lot of bang for the buck at H&M.

Leather Jackets

The Diesel Lujon jacket pictured below was 20% off and the last one left so I decided to take it and think about it later.  A leather jacket is a long term investment so you need to take your time and give it some thought while you try it out at home. There is an excellent article on GQ on how to buy a leather jacket. I recommend you read it if you are looking for one. GQ, how to buy a leather jacket.

It's not easy to photograph a black leather jacket. I tried my best below. The picture above is from the web and still doesn't show what a nice jacket this is. The leather quality is excellent and just feels good. It's a nice snug fit like a motorcycle style jacket should be. There is nothing worse than getting a jacket like this that is too big!

Update: I found a website with some nice jacket styles. The one pictured below is another cool looking motorcycle jacket. The all black look is nice. I think the different colored jackets with racing stripes are only good if you are a professional racer. As fashion they just look bad. The only negative about this jacket is that it's an Australian website. They offer free shipping but if you need to send it back it could be costly.

Chain Link

Combining neutral colors here. Only the socks have stronger colors but they are hidden unless I'm sitting. I like little details like that. The color code on these Levi's Jeans is 511-4160 which refers to the chain link color. Each color of 511's fit a little differently which is good because sooner or later you will find the ones that fit you best rather than not being able to find any. These are skinny jeans but just right. For guys my age the ones that stick to your legs just look silly. The shirt is by John Varvatos and the shoes are Bass. The watch is a Timex Expedition with a beige face which caught my attention. Timex makes some nice stylish watches that are very reasonably priced. Their J. Crew line is excellent. I obviously like watches but I prefer to own many inexpensive ones and switch them around a lot.

Wooster Street

A casual look for shopping in downtown Manhattan. Took this picture on Wooster street where I was able to park. A beautiful fall day with warm weather. I can't remember another October like this in NYC. I like the colors on the plaid shirt. The pants are from H&M, they make very nice casual pants in different colors. The driving moccasins are very comfortable and go well with anything.

Tweed Blazer

A tweed blazer is a must have for this time of year. Tim below is wearing a very nice one from H&M. It's one of those items that every man should have in his closet. I'm all about trying to look good without spending a lot of money and Tim shows how it's done here with an excellent look. You can check out his blog at

Retro Sneakers

I like retro looking sneakers. Unless you need something for a specific sport I don't think anything else looks as good. Below are some examples of sneakers I love. I don't own them all but I have similar ones that you can see in other posts. The Converse below is a new John Varvatos style they call the Pro Leather OX. It's a nice looking suede in a classic style that will always look great. Only downside for these shoes is that they are expensive at $150.

Converse John Varvatos Pro Leather OX - Dark Olive

Everyone should own a pair or two of the Chuck Taylors pictured below. They are inexpensive, look cool, and go well with everything. Also shown below are classic styles by Gola, Addidas, New Balance, and Asics. These all have cool retro looks and come in different colors.
